Consumer Tip for August 2007

BEWARE OF CHANGES IN CALLING DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE

Effective August 1, 2007, there will be an increased rate for dialing (area code) 555-1212 long distance directory assistance service. Those rates will increase by 50 cents from $1.99 to $2.49 per call.  In addition, the per-minute rate for calls placed using that service will increase by 14 cents from $1.15 to $1.29 per-minute.  Local 411 directory assistance charges 95 cents per call, after the monthly allowance of two calls.  National 411 charges $1.25 per call and if you dial the operator to reach directory assistance, an additional charge of $1.75 applies. Consider using free directory assistance services available by phone and online.  Companies like 1-800-FREE-411 are available,  and  you must listen to a short advertisement before receiving the number, but it may be worth it when your monthly bill arrives.
